Learn how to stitch a beautiful sashiko pattern design while creating something very practical for you or your favorite person who likes to sew, a handy sewing case for needles and notions with a decorative snap closure 🧵🪡
Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery style that was traditionally used for practical mending applications. Through many generations, a library of patterns and techniques have evolved that still find their way into modern mending, fashion designs and textile arts.
In this three-part workshop, Renee Johnson will teach how to create a “woven” sashiko pattern called “kuguri-zashi”. In Japanese, Kuguri translates to "pass through" and "zashi" is stitch. The pattern is created by passing the thread under stitches that were stitched on the fabric at regular intervals. Different patterns can be created by changing the stitches on the fabric as well as passing the thread under the stitches in different manners.
The first two sessions will focus on pattern design and stitching techniques with time for you to finish your stitching before the third session where you complete the project using basic hand and machine sewing techniques. You'll get lots of practical sewing instruction and tips in this workshop and Renee has lots of interesting fabrics, threads and buttons to make the project your own!
