Learning the foundations of pottery on the wheel with Rebecca Cigal
There is something deeply satisfying about sitting down at a pottery wheel and shaping a lump of clay into something beautiful with your own hands. If you have always wanted to learn how to throw pottery on the wheel, this four-session workshop is the perfect place to start.
Working in a small, supportive group, Rebecca Cigal will guide you through the foundations of wheel throwing — starting with centering and opening the clay, then pulling walls to create cylinders, and experimenting with other forms like bowls and plates. You'll also spend time learning how to finish your pieces, with an introduction to glazing and kiln firing techniques.
One of the things that makes this workshop special is the time you'll have to practice outside of class. In addition to the 10 hours of instruction, students are welcome to come in during Main Street Studio's open studio hours to practice independently throughout the duration of the course. It's a great opportunity to develop your skills and build confidence at the wheel. With a maximum class size of just 4 students, you'll receive plenty of personal attention and guidance from Rebecca throughout the course.
Each student will receive 25lbs of clay, glaze, and kiln firing for up to 6 finished pieces — so you'll leave with work you are truly proud of!
