Learn how to "paint" using wool with Mallory Zondag during this four-hour still life needle felting workshop. You will learn the techniques of flat needle felting to create images with wool using traditional painting techniques such as color blending, the use of light and shadow and so much more.
To continue with our "Farm and Art" collaborations, the subject matter for this workshop will feature a floral still life created by Marlee Imbarrato, owner of Fleur Flower Farm, or you can choose to work from one of Marlee’s photos of her beautiful flower farm. You could even bring your own photo to base your felted painting on if you have something special that inspires you!
This workshop is a celebration of our local beauty and the amazing things you can do with one of our treasured local resources... wool!
Mallory Zondag is a Mixed Media Fiber artist and artist educator. She graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Fashion Design and her work has been exhibited in both solo and group shows in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the Ukraine. She has been an artist in residence at The Allentown Art Museum, The Wassaic Project and many schools and community organizations. During many of these residencies she has led community art programs where felted wool living walls are collaboratively created with students of all ages and abilities. She was commissioned to create the sensory space for Artsquest's Accessible Arts program and was recently commissioned to recreate a component of one of Amalia Mesa-Bains's installations for her retrospective at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Mallory currently travels around the Northeast teaching workshops, leading community art programs and installing shows. We are so fortunate to have her in our community!
Marlee Imbarrato’s beautiful dahlias and gardens are the inspiration for this workshop! Marlee and her husband Chris have brought new life into their 1830’s farm on Devils Lane in Ballston Spa, NY through the magic of flowers. Marlee’s flower journey started several years ago when her first dahlias bloomed. From there she poured all of her energy and love into learning about flowers, design, and sustainable growing. Marlee launched Fleur Flower Farm in 2019, a now very busy working farm with an online store offering a curated collection of dahlia tubers all grown right here in Saratoga County! Bunches of dahlias are available for purchase August-October by appointment.
