Come and help us harvest Japanese indigo fresh from the Studio’s garden and experiment with ways to create lovely organic blue washes on fabrics, as well as potent dark green patterns using just the leaves from the indigo plant and stencils.
We’ll start the class by picking the leaves from the bushy plants and learning about how they were cultivated, then move quickly into creating a dye mixture of leaves and salt to color an 8”x54” silk scarf that you can bring home with you. You will also have the opportunity to experiment with other techniques to create patterns on cotton and/or use to embellish your scarf. This is a great opportunity to share ideas and try out a couple of techniques with our indigo harvest.
