Alteration isn’t only for clothing!
Take a creative journey with ceramic artist, Rebecca Cigal, in this three-part workshop designed to help you create functional pottery pieces that go beyond basic “round” forms. The first two sessions will focus on the foundational techniques used in hand-building. Students will have plenty of clay to play with as Rebecca walks the class through the many ways you can build, shape and embellish forms. You can work at your own pace and experiment with different techniques for rolling out and adhering clay slabs, segmenting and darting corners (similar to sewing!), and lots of tricks for designing and adding surface decorations.
Before the third session, your pieces will be bisque fired in the kiln so they will be ready for glazing during the third session.
When: Monday afternoons, February 3, 10 and 24
Time: 11:30 am – 2:30 pm
Cost: $295 non members, $265.50 members (use member code at checkout!)
Included in class: Limited class size instruction, 9 hrs studio/instruction time, access to open Studio times for independent work, up to 12.5 lbs of clay, glazes and two kiln firings.
_ Note, this workshop takes place over three separate weeks. There is one week gap after the second class so that the pieces can properly dry and go through the first firing!
This is an adult level class, young adults with a serious interest also welcome. Contact info@mainstreetcharlton.com for more info if you have any questions!_
If you are new to working with clay, learning and practicing the fundamental skills of hand-building is a great way to get started with creating functional and decorative ceramic pieces and it does not require any fancy equipment… as Rebecca will show you, most of the tools you will use in this class can be found at garage sales and thrift stores!
If you have been working with clay, either hand-building or throwing on the wheel, this class can add a spark of creativity to your process!
Most importantly, the goal of this class is to have fun while experimenting and not being timid of trying something new!
